Years to come look full of challenges for the Union of the Comoros.

The opportunity for the Comorian population and for its economic fabric is real, provided that we succeed in giving ourselves the means of modernization. This involves the valorization of the archipelago natural resources, its heritage and its cultural diversity. Also by the appropriation of the digital culture which became inescapable within the framework of international exchanges. 

With the core program, the Comoros archipelago enters a decisive phase of its development and the Comorian government works beside international partners to create the conditions of the autonomy and the well-being of the local population, with concrete advances before 2022.

5 development areas for a better global life
The plan has for objectives to guarantee the political and economic stability of the country, so as to favor the fulfillment of everyone, and articulates in 5 priority areas.

  • Housing and infrastructures
    & construction

    The main requirements for the country in the field of construction concerns in priority the realization of public buildings (administrative premises, local housing).

  • Road infrastructures

    The opening up of all the regions of the Comoros is one of the priorities. Close to 900km of roads are thus going to be built.

  • Thrifty management of energy

    Access to renewable energies will be promoted, in particular in order to respond to the economic constraints of the population and to the needs of the population isolated from the electric network.

  • Fabric impetus
    Local economic

    The international opening of the local companies will be facilitated, as well as the organization of new productions sectors, in order to use and export the local know-how.

  • Institutions reinforcement

    The political stability of the Comoros will have to go through a strong commitment of the institutions which are endowing themselves with modern tools in order to improve their actions at the service of the citizens.

  • Territory
    Comoros

    In 1946, the Comoros being a French colony, they are not anymore connected administratively to Madagascar and form for the first time in their history an administrative entity united and recognized, under the French status of “Territoire d’outre-mer” (Overseas territory).

  • Francophonie

    The education, judicial and administrative system uses Arabic and French languages . It is considered, however, to have the first two years of primary school in the different local languages (one for each island) in order to facilitate literacy.

  • Geography

    The Comoros archipelago is located in the northern part of the Mozambique channel. It is constituted of four islands : Grande Comore, Moheli, Anjouan and Mayotte. The total surface of the Union of the Comoros is 2 236km2. The capital, Moroni, is located on the largest island, Grande-Comore.

  • Politics

    The current regime has been adopted by referendum in December 2001. The Union, as well as each of the three islands, has a president. The islands have at their disposal a wide autonomy concerning economy, taxes, health and justice. Comorian franc is pegged to euro and is not an independent currency.
